Q: I have heard that there is a guest house or hotel in New York named after Bishop Desmond Tutu. From what I understand, it is part of a religious institution but anybody can stay there. Can you find out more about it? - James van Rensburg
A: The Desmond Tutu Center is located in the grounds of the General Theological Seminary in New York, which trains Anglican ministers. The accommodation at the centre is independently operated as a hotel for guests from all walks of life and they do not need to be connected to the seminary. Don't expect rock-bottom rates and spartan rooms here - this is a luxury establishment in a picture postcard setting. Its' location in Chelsea is within walking distance of restaurants, galleries and shops. There are 60 restored rooms with lavish bathrooms, television, free wireless Internet and tea/coffee makers. If you're lucky, you'll get a room looking out over the seminary gardens. Double rooms start at 329 US dollars including breakfast. Get details on www.acc-tutuconferencecenter.com website. (27/2/11)
