Hotel in Stellenbosch

Question: We have to attend a wedding in Stellenbosch and plan to extend our stay by a few days. As we want to make the trip special, can you recommend a really great place to stay? Brian Du Toit.

Answer:
There is a wide range of good accommodation in Stellenbosch, ranging from simple bed and breakfasts to lodges on wine estates and fine hotels.

One of the best choices would be the Lanzerac Manor and Winery, a beautiful resort set on a working wine estate on the outskirts of the town. This exclusive manor, with its own health spa, offers authentic Cape Dutch architecture, antiques and a rarified air of casual elegance. Choose from four restaurants, enjoy wine tastings on the property and take your late-night cognacs and cigars in the superb Craven Lounge. This hotel, which also boasts a spa and wellness centre, is definitely something special. (Telephone 021-887 1132.)

Another five-star hotel in a country setting, is the WedgeView Country House and Spa. Located five minutes from town, you can pamper yourselves in the Exclusive Decleor Health and Beauty Spa without leaving the property. The two-bedroomed suite is perfect for families. (Telephone 021- 881 3525.)

If you like very small hotels, the Batavia Boutique Hotel may be perfect. Located just off Dorp Street in the heart of Stellenbosch, it consists of only five luxurious bedrooms. Here you'll get personal service, along with facilities usually only available in larger hotels, such as a swimming pool, a dining room with an excellent selection of wines, a reading room, an internet connection and even room service. It was voted the best boutique hotel for 2005 and 2006 in the AA Accommodation Awards. (Telephone 021- 887 2914.)
