Holiday in Sri Lanka

QUESTION: I would like to visit Sri Lanka on holiday and have a few questions. Will I need a visa? Which is the easiest route using the same airline? Can you recommend a beach resort and hotel within easy reach of Colombo? - Jan Burden

ANSWER: South Africans do not need a visa for a holiday visit of up to 30 days. Using a single airline, the easiest would be to fly via the Middle East. You can travel with Emirates Airline via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha or Etihad Airways via Abu Dhabi. Negombo is regarded as the most convenient beach resort for Colombo and is only a few minutes away from the international airport. My choice of hotel is The Beach Negombo, a stylish resort on a private beach which costs around $125 for a double room per night on discount websites. A more affordable choice would be the nearby Blue Oceanic Hotel for around $60 per room.
