Eco-friendly lodge in Mozambique

QUESTION: We would like to treat American friends (also my husband's business associates) to a trip to Mozambique and need advice on suitable accommodation. Ideally, we would prefer an eco-friendly resort on the beach, but one where our well-travelled friends would be comfortable. A place similar to the top SA game lodges would be ideal. Your help would be appreciated. - Daphne Jones

ANSWER: You could try the Guludo Beach Lodge, which has been praised for its eco-friendly credentials. It was built using only local material and set up to benefit the local communities. The lodge is located on a magnificent beach in the northern part of the Quirimbas National Park. Accommodation is in nine thatched roof 'tented' bandas, each with a bathroom en suite. Activities include game viewing, scuba diving and soaking up the local culture. Get further details from your travel agent or the www.guludo.com website.
