QUESTION: I am on a South African passport and would like to visit Taiwan. Do I need a visa and are there any special requirements? - Andy Pollock
ANSWER: Yes, you will need a visa, available from the Taipei Liaison Office in Pretoria (Tel: 012- 4306071). Your passport will need to be valid for at least six months after the date you intend to visit. You will need two photographs, an itinerary and a letter from your bank indicating how much you intend to spend. If you are visiting family or friends, a letter is required from the person in Taiwan. The visa is issued free of charge to permanent SA residents and is valid for three months from date of issue. In normal circumstances, it should take about a week to process.
