Q: I would love to attend the Swahili music festival which takes place in Zanzibar in January or February. Could you please give me some details of this event? I would appreciate it if you could provide me with a website with information. - Simon Stein
A. This festival is know as the Sauti za Busara and takes place in Stonetown and Kendwa Beach, Zanzibar from February 8-12, 2012. It is one of East Africa's biggest cultural events and, besides great music, also features theatre and dance. The events take place in old forts, amphitheatres and other historic buildings. If your idea of a relaxation is great African music, skewered meats, lovely sunsets and lots of dancing, then this is the event for you. Among the artists already confirmed are Jagwa Music (Tanzania), Nneka (Nigeria), Ary Morais (Cape Verde) Companhia Nacional de Canto e Dança (Mozambique), Ndere Troupe (Uganda), Kozman Ti Dalon (Reunion) and Swahili Vibes Band (Zanzibar). Tickets range from 26 US dollars for a one-day pass (international visitor) to 120 US dollars for a VIP pass covering the full festival. There are hefty discounts for Tanzanian and East African residents. You can get more details on the www.busaramusic.com website. (18/12/11)
