Q: Is it worthwhile going scuba diving while in Dubai? I am not very experienced, so I would not be trying out any very deep dives. What do you recommend? - Alan Graham
A: Since off-shore construction of the Palm and the World islands, underwater visibility has become slightly obscured. However, the warm sea temperature makes Dubai a great destination for less experienced divers such as you and the many dive schools know which areas to visit for better visibility. A popular spot is the site of a sunken cruise liner, which went down in the 1960s just outside the port of Dubai. You can also do diving trips to Fujayrah, which has great marine life, and Oman. You will find many diving operations in Dubai, two of the better ones being Al Boom Diving (www.alboomdiving.com) and the Pavilion Dive Centre at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel (/www.jumeirah.com).
