Q: We would like to travel by train from Heathrow airport to Scotland. Could you please advise as to how to get from the airport to the nearest station and where can one get the time schedules for those journeys? - Joyce Naidoo
A: From Heathrow you will need to travel to the central London station from where your train departs. The best way to do this is to travel by tube, although you could also catch a taxi for this journey. The departure station depends on your destination and which service you choose. Most trains to Edinburgh Waverley, the main station in Edinburgh, depart from London's King's Cross station. From Heathrow, you can take the Picadilly Line directly to King's Cross. However, the overnight Caledonian Sleeper service departs from London Euston station. To get to Euston from Heathrow using the tube involves changing tube stations, so if you have luggage it may be best to catch a taxi to Euston. You could also catch the Heathrow Express train to Paddington station and then a taxi to Euston. For further details check the www.nationalrail.co.uk website. (19/12/10)
