Q: We are looking for reasonably priced accommodation, preferably self-catering or in a guesthouse, in the Seychelles. If possible, we would prefer to stay on the beachfront on Praslin or La Digue Island. - Vera Raubenheimer
A: There are a number of small, independent guesthouses and family-run hotels in the Seychelles. Accommodation is not cheap, but you can find a clean, comfortable double room for under 100 Euros (R975) per night. Rosemary's Guesthouse is located on one of Praslin's most beautiful beaches, Côte d’Or. With only three rooms, a double room costs 70 Euros (685) per night (www.ile-tropicale.com/rosemary). Villa Flamboyant is a small guesthouse with only eight rooms located in expansive gardens with 2kms of beach frontage at La Pointe on Praslin. Rates start at 90 Euros (R880) for a double room with breakfasts, and there are two self-catering bungalows for family groups (www.villaflamboyanthotel.net). One of the nine beachfront rooms at the Beach Villa Guesthouse on Praslin will set you back only 95 Euros (R930) per night. Overlooking Grand Anse beach, this is the perfect place for beach-loving families or couples (Email: martin@seychelles.net). On La Digue Island you will find the intimate Sunshine Guesthouse, with only four rooms. Located on the beachfront at La Passe, rates range from 70-80 Euros (R685-R780) for a double room with breakfast (Email: judemg@hotmail.com). You can find a list of guesthouses on the www.seychelles.travel website. (1/5/11)
