Free Transit Visa at Abu Dhabi

Q: I have an eight-hour stopover at Abu Dhabi airport. Do I need a visa to leave the airport? Alternatively, is there a transit hotel in the airport where I can get a few hours rest without passing through immigration? - Louis Bevan.

A: You can get a free transit visa, which is valid for four days (96 hours). This needs to be sponsored by your airline or travel company and needs to be arranged in advance. It can only be issued once you have a valid ticket for an onward flight. Please note that visas are not given to travellers whose passport contains stamps from travel to Israel. There is a transit hotel in the airport. As it only has 40 rooms, early booking is essential (Email: airphotl@emirates.net.ae). (8/1/12)
