Q: During a visit to Barcelona in January, I would like to take a ferry to Palma in Mallorca. I would be taking a small car with me. Do the ferry services still operate in mid-winter? Any other information (starting point, fare, etc) would be welcome. Jennifer Ryan
A: There are a number of ferry operators which offer a year-round service between Barcelona and Palma. Both Balearia and Acciona have seven sailings a week. The ferries leave Barcelona at 11pm and the trip takes around seven hours. Fares depend on a number of factors, such as the size of your vehicle, the number of passengers, the accommodation booked on the ferry (cabin or sea) and the date. Check the www.cometopalma.com website for a full listing of ferry operators and contact details. (14/11/10)
