Cheap Way to Bodrum

Q: We will be travelling to Istanbul in June. We would like to visit Bodrum and need information on an easy and cheap way to get there and back. - Fiona Gregg

A: There are regular flights daily between the two centres. If you get in early, you could get a cheap fare on one of the budget airlines Pegasus, Onur Air or Atlas Jet from as little as 52 GBP (R595) return. Those seats sell out quickly, so count on paying around 100 GBP (R1140) return. You could also fly with Turkish Airlines, but that will cost you more. The flight takes only one hour 10 minutes. Check for the cheapest fare on www.skyscanner.net. You can do the journey by bus, but it could take up to 12 hours to do the 710km trip. The three main companies operating on this route are Varan (departs from Caglayan on the Europe side and Atasehir on the Asian side), Ulusoy (from Merter in Europe and Kucukyali in Asia and BOSS (from Kasimpasa in Europe and Atasehir in Asia). Fares are around 38 Euros (R375) per person one way. For contact details and further information check the www.letsgoistanbul.com website. (27/3/11)
