Q: I want to divide my holiday in Malaysia in July between Penang and Langkawi islands. I would like to find out about transport between the islands - are there scheduled flights and/or ferry services? - Lettie Snyders
A: The low cost carrier Air Asia flies between Penang and Langkawi daily (www.airasia.com). I checked on fares in July and the best fare I got was 39 Malaysian Ringgits each way (about R92).However, ticket prices can rise substantially due to date and demand. Flying time is 35 minutes. Langkawi Ferry Services operates a daily service between the two centres at a price of 60 Malaysian Ringgits each way (about R142). It takes two hours 45 minutes (www.langkawi-ferry.com).
