Hotel in Chiang Mai

Q: We are travelling to Bangkok in July and would like to spend a few days in Chiang Mai. Can you recommend reasonably-priced accommodation in a central location, preferably with air-conditioning and a swimming pool as I understand this is the hot season. – Janice Cruywagen.

A: The prime location for accommodation is close to the Night Market in the city centre or along the Ping River. Good choices near the market are the Manathai Village Hotel or the Maninarakorn Hotel. Along the river, try the lovely Lanna Mantra Hotel. Room are available at these hotels from R300-R600 through discount booking website like www.asiarooms.com or www.hoteltravel.com. You can get great value at the Novotel Chiang Mai from the www.novotel.com website. You can score a room for as little as R250. The hotel is about 10 minutes from the Night Market, but taxis are plentiful and there is a free shuttle bus. All the above hotels have air-conditioned rooms and a swimming pool.
