Hotel at Hong Kong Airport

Q: Do you know of any reasonably-priced accommodation near Hong Kong Airport? We have a 20-hour stopover there and the room rate we have been offered for a double room at the Regal Airport Hotel is HK$2500 (R2400). We would like to spend only about half that amount. - Faith Smith

A: The Regal Hong Kong Airport Hotel is the only hotel at the airport and is conveniently connected by a walkway. You can get the rate down to around R1700 by booking through discount websites. A good alternative is the Novotel Citygate Hotel in Tung Chung, which is only a five-minute trip by shuttle bus. You can get a double room there for around R1100 on the Internet. To get a hotel any cheaper, you will have to book a room in Hong Kong or Kowloon, which is a 20-minute trip away by airport express train. For great value, try the oddly-named YMCA Salisbury Hotel on the harbourfront in Kowloon, which operates as a regular hotel. You can get a room for around R700 a night and share the same view as the five-star Peninsula Hotel next door.
