Damage in Cancun

Q: We are considering visiting Cancun in Mexico in June, but are concerned that the resort may not have recovered fully from the devastation of Hurricane Wilma in 2005. Are the beaches and hotels back to normal yet? - Kevin Wright

A: The beaches were restored and doubled in size as part of a $20-million recovery programme last year, but latest reports suggest that there has been heavy erosion on some beaches. However, this should not unduly affect your holiday in this exciting destination. Most of the beaches are the same as they were before the hurricane - and the hotels and facilities are much improved following massive renovations and rebuilding on the tourist strip.
