Q: I need to stay in a hotel in Cape Town for a weekend at the end of April to attend a relative's wedding. I cannot seem to find a hotel room in the city centre/Sea Point area for less than R750 a night. Please help. - Sue Mackintosh
A: Cape Town hotels have become pricey, but you can find good value. If you want really basic accommodation, the best value is the Formula 1 hotel on the foreshore. A room for R264 per night can sleep up to three people (Tel: 021 418-4664). For more comfort and a swimming pool, try the Garden Court Eastern Boulevard's "summer special" at R398 per room (www.southernsun.com). Alternatively, you can try your hand at bidding for one of the City Lodge properties (www.bid2stay.co.za). Expect to pay around 50% of the regular room rate. Of course, there are many bed and breakfasts from about R200 per person (ww.capestay.co.za).
