Booking on Mykonos

QUESTION: We intend visiting the Greek Islands in September this year. We have booked our flight to Athens and would like to know if we need to book accommodation on the islands in advance. We hope to visit Mykonos and Paros. - Les White

ANSWER: The answer depends on whether you are an adventurous traveller or not. Many people like to book a few nights at a hotel on the island of their choice, so that they can be assured of accommodation when they arrive. However, I have never had trouble finding a room outside of the peak August period. There will be plenty of touts trying to sell you rooms at the ferry port, so you can usually secure a bed for the night pretty quickly if you're nervous. But if you take your time and stroll around on your own, you will usually find something to suit your budget and requirements. For me, finding a room is part of the holiday and a great way to see the islands and meet interesting people.
