QUESTION: We will be in New York in February. We are great fans of the film, The Sound of Music, and believe there is a lodge dedicated to the Von Trapp family in Vermont. It seems an unlikely location, but we would like to find out more information about the lodge and would appreciate details on how to get there. - Alice Thompson
ANSWER: The Trapp Family Lodge is located in Stowe, Vermont. The Von Trapps ended up in the state of Vermont after fleeing Nazi rule and established a ski lodge in their new home in 1950. A new Austrian-style lodge was opened in 1983 which has 93 rooms. Additional rooms and 100 guesthouses have since been added. It attracts thousands of the "Sound of Music" fans each year and hosts part of the Vermont Mozart Festival. The easiest way to get there is to fly from New York (Newark or JFK) to Burlington International Airport, which is a 45-minute drive to Stowe. For further details and bookings check out the lodge website (www.trappfamily.com).
