Tickets for Oktoberfest in Munich

QUESTION: We would like to attend the Oktoberfest during our visit to Munich this year. We will be there for the first three days of this year's festival, from 22-24 September 2007. Can you please tell us whether we need to buy tickets in advance (and how we do that) and whether there are facilities for children? - Lettie Beukes

ANSWER: You don't need to buy an overall ticket to the Oktoberfest. The festival consists of 14 massive tents, all with a particular speciality and atmosphere. With 100,000 seats available, you can usually secure entry if you arrive before the tents open at 10am. If you intend arriving later in the day, you should book your seats in one of the tents directly with the tent owners, who are listed on the Oktoberfest website (http://www.oktoberfest.de/en/). You can also buy a tourist package, which includes transport and entry to a tent. Children are welcome, but children under the age of six must leave tents at 8pm. The most popular tent for families is the Augustiner-Festhalle, which has special children's days.
