Living it up in the Seychelles

QUESTION: My boss wants to take his wife to the Seychelles for their wedding anniversary. He has asked me to locate a beach hotel that is small, private and exclusive. As cost is not an issue, could you help with the name of a good choice. - Diana de Villiers

ANSWER: I can recommend two exclusive resorts situated on their own private islands. The Fregate Island Private is, as the name suggests, very private. With 16 thatched villas, this one-square-mile Indian Ocean island resort is a haven for celebrities and other seeking a holiday away from prying eyes. Each villa, made from natural materials with a large terrace and jacuzzi, are positioned to ensure total privacy and no day visitors are allowed. With seven beaches and two freshwater pools, you really don't have to mingle with the other guests if you don't want to. Two restaurants serve up gourmet fare and there is a yacht and motorboat available for cruising the waters around the island. This is a perfect honeymoon - or anniversary - retreat for those who really want to be alone. North Island Lodge is similar to Fregate, and comes highly praised for its environmentally-friendly policies. Once voted the best beach retreat in the world, it offers guests a totally unspoilt tropical haven on its own island. With only 11 beachfront villas with private pools and a choice of four beaches, it is the choice of those seeking a "Robinson Crusoe" experience. However, it lacks none of the usual luxuries of a five-star hotel, such as a spa, a library, private butlers, 24-hour room service and a world-class dive centre. There is no menu - the chef takes his orders directly from the guests. Both resorts come at a hefty price, but there are other larger resorts that also offer a high level of luxury at a more affordable rate, such as the Banyan Tree Seychelles and the Constance Lemuria Resort.
