Vibey Places to Stay in Birmingham

Q: My boyfriend and I need to spend two nights in Birmingham in December. Can you recommend a vibey place to stay which is not a chain hotel or a backpacker hostel? Find us something around 50 British pounds and you''ll be our hero. - Candy Pringle

A: One of the fun places to stay in Birmingham is the nitenite Cityrooms. This budget boutique hotel has tiny rooms, but they are fitted out beautifully, with cherry wood and leather furniture. There is a private bathroom and a huge plasma TV - which doubles as a window. As there is no window in the room, one channel shows you the street outside. The rates fluctuate, depending on season and demand. I was quoted 101 GBP (R1160) for two nights in December, with one night at 48 GBP and the other at 53 GBP. You can reserve a room on the www.nitenitehotelbirmingham.co.uk website. A hotel which would fit your fun spirit but not your budget is the Birmingham Mal Hotel. You'd have to fork up around 180 GBP (R2000) per night for a trendy room with four-poster bed, wi-fi, plasma TVs and great toiletries. If you really want to splash out, go for the Penny Black Suite, which has its own spa and a cinema. Check it out on the www.malmaison.com website. (11/9/11)
