Q: Last year you published a list of the cruise companies that did not expect their staff to be tipped by passengers. I resent being forced to pay a recommended tip which has nothing to do with the service rendered. - Hector Spies
A: The tip-free companies listed included Seabourn Cruises, Silversea Cruises, Cruise West, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The policies of these companies was that "tips are neither required nor expected", although you were entitled reward any staff member for exceptional service. Certainly makes a difference from "suggested tips" on other liners! (22/8/10)

I refer to your response in the Sunday Times Travel & Food, regarding the cruise companies that do not expect their passengers to tip/pay gratuities. I see that your list is of high-end cruise lines and thought that I could add a few more and some of the middle range cruise lines that are offered to South African passengers.
High End: Swan Hellenic, Orion Expedition Cruise Lines,
Voyages to Antiquity, Hebridean Island Cruises.
Mid Range: Voyages of Discovery
Family Cruises: Star Cruises.
