Organised Tours of the Vatican

Q: I will be on holiday in Rome in December and have allocated one day to see the Vatican. Is it possible to see the most important sites in a day on my own or is there a tour I could join? - Nathan Rensburg

A: It would be possible to get to all the sites, but it would be far easier to join one of the organised tours. For one, they will arrange your visit in advance and you won't have to queue for tickets. The website www.viator.com is offering a guided walking tour that gets to most of the major attractions in eight hours. The cost of the tour is 90 Euros (R986) and can be booked on the site. This tour, a combination of two tours, takes you to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, Gallery of Maps, Raphael's Rooms, St. Peter's Basilica and the most important Basilicas of the Vatican. This is the only Vatican City tour that incorporates all of the Basilicas along with the Vatican Museums to ensure you see everything in one day. Numbers on the tour are limited to 25 people.
