Luxury Train in India

Q: Five of us are planning to visit India in December. We are hoping to visit Chennai, Mumbai and Delhi. I am not certain but I read an article mentioning a luxury train that travels from Mumbai to Delhi. If it is possible could you forward me the name of the train. - Tiger Pather

A: The train you are referring to is the Rajdhani Express, specifically the 2951Mumbai Rajdhani. It departs Mumbai Central at 4.40 p.m. daily and arrives at New Delhi Railway Station at 8.30 a.m. the next morning. It passes through five states en route to the capital city. While it is regarded as luxurious, it is certainly not in the league of the Oriental Express (or the Blue Train). Its' first class is similar to the old SA Railways first class, with bunk beds in two-sleeper coupes and four-sleeper compartments. The ticket price includes meals, which are served in a dining saloon. (31/10/10)
