Q: I will be in Hong Kong in May and am looking for an affordable hotel. Ideally, the hotel will be located close to the convention centre on Hong Kong island. I am hoping to find a double room for under R1000 a night. - Raymond Done
A: If you don't mind a small room, the North Point Ibis has a great location on Hong Kong island, only 4kms from the convention centre. Rooms have satellite TV, personal safe, minibar and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a 24-hour restaurant, Some rooms even have a stunning harbour view. Rooms in May were on offer from 649 HK$ (R629) plus 10% service charge on www.booking.com. You could also try the Y-Loft, which is directly connected to the Chai Wan MTR station. It is some distance from the shopping and entertainment centres, but offers good transport links. It offers stylish rooms from 660 HK$ (R650) on www.wotif.com. Another good choice is the Metropark Hotel, which is located in Causeway Bay. Guests can make use of a free shuttle bus to the city centre. This four-star hotel is available on www.agoda.com from 989 HK$ (R973). Finally, you can try the Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Hong, a four-star high-rise next to the Happy Valley Racecourse and close to the Causeway Bay MTR station. The location provides access to the convention centre and the Airport Express Line. Book it on www.hotels.com for 675 HK$ (R664). (12/2/12)
