Q: We will be in Sao Paulo in December and would like to experience the city's legendary nightlife. However, we don't have a clue where to go and I am not sure we would be able to experience the best by relying on guide books. A: There are organised nightlife excursions that will take you out for dinner, to a bar for a drink and one two nightspots. However, remember that clubs only get going well after midnight, so expect to spend the early morning out if you want to party with the locals. There is no need to book in advance for these tours. You can get details when you arrive from the concierge of your hotel or a travel agent. Your concierge could also locate a professional tour guide for you if you would prefer a personalised itinerary. You could find a guide in advance through the www.toursbylocals.com website but I recommend you only finalise your tour/guide when you are in Sao Paulo. This gives you the opportunity to assess your options. Going out with someone you don't feel comfortable with would not be a good idea and you may meet a local or fellow traveller who lets you join their night out or offers to show you around. (19/9/10)
