Hong Kong Harbour by Night

Q: I would like to take a tour of Hong Kong harbour during the nightly light show. Can you provide me with details of a tour that doesn't cost too much. - Anne Serfontein

A: There are a number of harbour cruises which offer unobstructed views of the nightly performance, A Symphony of Lights. One of the most popular is a dinner cruise organised by Bauhinia Cruises, which leaves at 8pm and takes around two hours. There is an onboard buffet dinner and a live band provides entertainment. The cost is 380 Hong Kong dollars (R336) per person, plus a 10 percent service charge. If you don't fancy having dinner onboard, then Watertours of Hong Kong Ltd offer a circular tour of the harbour with an unlimited supply of drinks. It leaves at around 7.45pm and takes 90 minutes. It costs 310 Hong Kong dollars (R274) per person. Finally, you can watch the lighting spectacle from the deck of a "Shining Star" ferry. It leaves at 7pm and takes around two hours to complete a tour of the harbour. The price is 150 Hong Kong dollars (R132) per person, which includes a refreshment coupon. You can find out details of these and other harbour cruises on the Hong Kong Tourism Board website www.discoverhongkong.com. (13/3/11)
