Gettking from Mumbai to Hong Kong

Q: I will be traveling to Mumbai, and then I would like to go to Hong Kong. Please help me with the cheapest way to get to Hong Kong either by train, bus or flight and how long it would take? - Mpume Nyathi

A: The distance between the two cities is more than 4000kms as the bird flies, which would make travelling by bus or train travel a real adventure! Unless you are prepared for this long journey which crosses China and would take a number of days, flying would be the best option. If you only need a one-way ticket between Mumbai and Hong Kong, the cheapest flight I could find on www.expedia.com was 302 US dollars (R2,205) on Air India. This trip goes via Delhi and can take up to 15 hours including the connecting time. Flying with Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur takes up to 20 hours and costs 339 US dollars (R2,270). The cheapest non-stop flight, taking around six hours each way, is on Jet Airways for 493 US dollars (R3,306), followed by Kingfisher Airlines at 495 US dollars (R3,320). The cheapest return ticket is on Air India at 643 US dollars (R4300) with one stop, while the cheapest direct flights are on Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines for 742 US dollars (R4,970). The flights take around six hours. To find cheaper tickets for all these flights, you can check www.skyscanner.net. If you have plenty of time on your hands and want to find the very cheapest fare, fly from Mumbai to Kolkata on Air Deccan or SpiceJet and then fly from Kolkata to Singapore and then Singapore to Hong Kong on JetStarAsia. You can check these ticket prices on the airline websites (www.airdecan.com, www.spicejet.com and www,jetstarasia.com) or www.skyscanner.net. (1/5/11)
