Flying to the Kruger Park

Q: Are there flights from Johannesburg to the Kruger National Park? What would a return ticket cost? - Rapoo Mashishi

A: There is an airstrip at Skukuza Camp in the park, but this is only used by charter flights. However, there are three airports outside of the park which serve the different areas of the park. All three have scheduled daily SAA flights from OR Tambo International Aiport in Johannesburg. The first is the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMI) at Nelspruit, which services the southern section of the park, including lodges in the southern part of the Sabi Sands, Timbavati, Kapama, Thornybush, Manyeleti. There are daily flights from OR Tambo on SAA and British Airways, as well as scheduled SAA flights from Cape Town and Durban. The central section of the park is serviced by Eastgate Airport at Hoedspruit, while the northern section is covered by the Gateway Airport at Phalaborwa. Return fares range from R1514 to R3201 (KMI), R2052 to R2839 (Hoedspruit) and R2403 to R3771 (Phalaborwa). (15/8/10)
