Flat Rental during London Olympics

Q: We are considering renting an apartment in London during the Olympic Games. With five adults in our group, we would need a two-bedroom unit at the very least. Can you tell us where we could find apartments and what we are likely to pay? - Gracie King

A: The Olympic Games run from July 27, 2012 for two weeks - and the rates of most rental apartments have been doubled over this period. However, an apartment can be very cost-effective when compared to hotel accommodation. The cheapest rates will probably be for apartments and homes rented out privately by Londoners going on holiday during the Games. However, you will need someone living in London to keep an eye open for the bargains, which will be advertised in local papers and on community notice boards. Your best bet from here is to check accommodation websites such as www.londonapartmentservice.co.uk, www.citybaseapartments.com and www.holiday-rentals.co.uk. The rates at present seem to be around 1500-2000 British pounds per week, around double the normal rate. For five people, it works out at 42 pounds per person per night. (7/8/11)
