Find Me a Cruise to Rome

Q: I would like to go on a cruise that allows me to visit Rome. Which cruise companies offer the city as a port of call or destination? I know that the city is not located on the Mediterranean Sea, so which is the closest port? Do any cruise ships dock on the Tiber River? - Lisbeth Simons

A: The main port for Rome is Civitavecchia, which is located about one hour's bus ride from Rome. The Tiber River is far too small for cruise ships to sail on, so that is not an alternative. It is worthwhile starting or ending your cruise at Rome, so that you can spend a few days visiting this amazing city. Most major cruise lines operating in Europe use Civitavecchia for their Rome destination. These include Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Crystal Cruises, Cunard Line, MSC Cruises, Princess Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Seabourn and Silversea Cruises. For further details on these operators check the www.civitavecchiacruises.com website. (22/1/12)
