Ferry Trip in Croatia

Q: I would like to find out about the low-cost ferry trip in Croatia which travels to the islands. I believe it runs from Rijeka to Dubrovnik. Could you assist me with booking details and cost? - Anna Els

A: The ferry services in Croatia offer some of the best travel bargains in Europe. Companies such as the Jadrolinija line offer you the chance to take a low-cost overnight trip along the Dalmation Coast and to the islands. This journey from Rijeka to Dubrovnik takes 22 hours, but you will get to stop at the best places, such as the holiday resorts of Zadar and Split, during the daylight hours. Don't expect high luxury, these are usually large car ferries. However, you will be comfortable enough as you pass some uninhabited islands and stop at places like Hvar and Korcula. You will get to see sights ranging fom Medieval buildings to Roman ruins and watch the daily life of the Croatian people. Fares can be booked in advance from 28,50 Euros (R280) per person. You can also reserve a private cabin with a shower and toilet. Rates depend on the season, but a top-end two-berth cabin will cost 80-100 Euros (R790-R990) in mid-summer. This includes port taxes and breakfast. (5/6/11)
