Best Island for Diving

Q: We are thinking of going to either Phuket or Bali at the end of April. In your opinion which is better for diving? - Ruwaida Johnson

A: Both Phuket and Bali offer excellent diving. Phuket's best diving spots are located around the Phi Phi Islands, the Racha Islands and the famous Similan Islands (which close to diving from May to October each year). Some of Bali's diving attractions are Padang Bai, the Komodo Islands and Tulemben Bay. There does not seem to be much difference in the quality of dives, so most people decide on the basis of the weather and underwater visibility. However, April falls between the seasons. In Phuket, April is the last month of the calm winter season, while in Bali, many regard it as the first month of the dry season, when diving is most popular. Therefore, you may as well make your decision based on what packages you can get and other attractions you wish to visit. (30/1/11)
