A: The easiest way to get from Venice to Vicenza is to go by train. The faster services take only 45 minutes for the trip, while the slower, cheaper service takes just over an hour. There are plenty of things to see in this historic town. Fine architecture resulted in the town being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Places to visit include the Palladiana Basilica in Vicenza which dates back to the mid-16th century. Designed by the famous architect Andrea Palladio, it is one of the most striking buildings in the town. It is centrally located in the Piazza dei Signori which makes it a great starting point for your sightseeing. Your next stop should be the Civico Museum, which specialises in Italian art predominantly from the Veneto region. Across the road you will find the town's most famous individual sight, the Teatro Olimpico. This was Palladio's last work, which was finished by his son and then by Vincenzo Scamozzi. Finally you should make icenzyour way to the Monte Berico Basilica which is located on a hill on the outskirts of the town. It gives you a good view of the town below and the basilica is supposedly the place where the Virgin Mary made two miraculous appearances. (2 May 2010)
