Ride an Elephant to your Villa

<!--[if gte mso 9]> Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Q: I read an article recently which referred to an island off Sri Lanka that can be rented in its entirety, I remember it had a holiday villa overlooking a beach on the mainland and was not too expensive. Can you give me details of this villa and how we could find out about renting it. - Sally Masterton

A: The place you are referring to is Taprobane Island. It comprises more than two acres of tropical paradise with nothing between it and the South Pole. However, it is located relatively close to the Sri Lankan mainland and, at low tide, you can even be transferred to the resort on the back of an elephant. Accommodation is provided for in five en-suite bedrooms, with spacious living areas, balconies, verandahs and a stunning infinity pool. A staff of five cater for the needs of guests. The rate to rent the island ranges from 1000 US dollars per day in low season to 2200 US dollars per day over the peak Christmas/New Year period. You can find out more on the www.taprobaneisland.com website. (14 June 2010)
