Q: We will be visiting Bruges and Ghent during 2011 with our son and grandchild and are looking for family rooms or apartments but certainly not in hostels or the like. Our budget is 100 Euros per night for a double room. Could you suggest websites to try? - Adrian Reffin
A: One of the better websites for budget hotels is www.venere.com. Using a test date in January 2011, I found a two-star hotel located 600m fron the railway station in Brugges, the Hotel De Goezeput . I was quoted 86 Euros for a room accommodating four people. In Ghent I found the Hotel Holiday Inn Gent Expo for 96 Euros. The room has one double bed and one double sofa bed. It is located at the expo on the outskirts of Ghent, but you can get to the city centre by tram or train. Another site which has a search facility for quadruple rooms is www.galahotels.com. In Brugges I found the three-star Hotel Scandanavia, with a four-bed room for 93 Euros. The hotel is in rhe heart of the city centre. You can also try www.travellerspoint.com for guesthouses. You should be able to work out from the description whether it is aimed at families or backpackers. (7 June 2010)
