Weekend at Victoria Falls

QUESTION: I would like to visit Victoria Falls. What is the best time of the year to go there and how do I get there? Also, please recommend hotels to stay there. I have been told that the Zimbabwean side is the more beautiful, but the Zambian side is safer and better maintained. What do you recommend? - Clive Mabuya

ANSWER: The best time to visit Victoria Falls is between September and November. The water flow is strongest during March and April, but the spray mist can make them difficult to see. At other times it can be very humid. It is best to fly to the region, either to Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe or Livingstone Airport in Zambia. There are plenty of good hotels available at excellent rates to southern African travellers, but it is probably worthwhile buying a fly-hotel package from a travel company such as Flight Centre, Seekers, Thompsons or Holiday Tours. They use very good hotels such as Elephant Hills, the Kingdom or the Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe and Sun International's two spectacular resorts on the Zambian side. Neither side is better than the other, so perhaps you should decide on the basis of the deals you can find.
