My favourite Bangkok hotels

QUESTION: We are looking for a really nice hotel in Bangkok and I know you are an expert on Thailand. Come on, give us a few of your favourites! - Nancy Ellis

ANSWER: Of course, choosing a hotel depends on your requirements and your budget. But here goes. For world-class luxury, nothing tops The Peninsula overlooking the Chao Praya River (around US$250 a night). It has been voted the best hotel in the world and deservedly so. For mid-range luxury, try the Sofitel Silom, with its splendid views, or The Davis off Sukhumwit Road for a unique Thai-style atmosphere. The best family choice is the Pathumwan Princess Hotel, which is linked to the MBK shopping mall and the Skytrain. For younger travellers, nothing beats the stylish Buddy Lodge in Khoasan Road. Boutique hotels which offer excellent value and swimming pools, the best choices are the Silom Serene and the Siam Heritage. You can get excellent rates at all Bangkok hotels through Internet discount websites, like www.asiarooms.com, www.hoteltravel.com and www.asiatravel.com.
