Hot beaches in the Cape

QUESTION: We will visit Cape Town for the first time over Easter and want to stay near a beach where we can swim in water that isn't freezing cold. Would I be correct in assuming that Muizenberg or Simon's Town would be the best spots? - Karin Van Deventer

ANSWER: The False Bay beaches, which include the two you mentioned, certainly do offer warmer water than the more glamorous ones on the Atlantic Seaboard. Other beaches on this stretch of coast you could try include Fish Hoek, which is very popular with families, and the wonderful Boulders Beach, a personal favourite. You may also wish to consider staying at one of the resorts slightly further out in the Helderberg area, such as the Strand and Gordon's Bay. They offer great beaches, safe swimming and a friendly holiday atmosphere, yet are less than an hour's drive from the many attractions in Cape Town.
