QUESTION: When I book a flight on the Internet and am offered the option to select a seat, it is almost impossible for me to decide on a seat. I usually end up without selecting one at all in case I make the wrong choice. Could you give me some guidelines. - Sue van Rooyen.
ANSWER; Once you have decided whether you want a window or aisle seat, you can find out which seats are the best by going to the www.seatguru.com website. As long as you know the type of aircraft being operated (ie. a Boeing 777-200) you will discover which seats are to be avoided and why. Things to look out for include rows which only have two seats, as opposed to three (great for a couple flying together), and seats located close to food galleys and toilets (they can be noisy). By checking the row numbers you can also discover whether the front row being offered on the Internet is indeed the front row of the aircraft, as some airlines "block out" some of the premium seats from their displays. The website will also tell you which seats don't recline properly or have extra equipment blocking legroom.
