QUESTION: Earlier this year my husband flew Air Emirates to England and despite the long wait in the wee hours, was most impressed with this airline. We are wondering if you can recommend any cheap (but not nasty!) hotels, B& B’s etc, where one can stay in Dubai for a few days, as we’d like to break our journey there en route to England next year. - Moira MacMurray
ANSWER: If you are flying on Emirates, you can use the airline website to book hotels at reasonable rates. Two-night packages are available for as little as US$68 per person. If you want to book a hotel independently, you can try one of the international hotel discount websites. I checked www.directrooms.com and the best offer I could find was a double room in a two-star hotel for 66 US dollars, including taxes and breakfast. A number of hotels are available for under 100 US dollars. Another website, www.hoteltravel.com, offered a three-star hotel, the Residence Deira By Le Meridien Hotel, from 95 US dollars. You can find a number of guest houses in all price brackets at the website www.travel-library.com.
